Atzompa x LA Clay Necklace

$200.00

One-of-a-kind clay beaded necklace by Martha Alicia Jiménez. This necklace uses clay from Atzompa, Oaxaca fired in an open burn, as well as clay the artist purchased in Los Angeles after her move here. It represents her migration from Oaxaca to California, joining the two lands on one strand. Martha Alicia wears these clay necklaces when preforming ceremonies that honor the earth. It can be worn around the neck as jewelry or displayed in the home as decor.

Through her work, Martha Alicia explores the themes of healing and repair, beauty in rupture, and connecting with her body as a woman and as a mother. She focuses on creating free-hand sculptural clay pieces. Her pieces express the intimate relationship of the artist's body with her femininity and movement.
